The Game Research Program
Computer gaming has tremendous actual and potential impact on culture and technology. The Game Research Program aims to raise the profile of game research at UIUC. It pulls together people and resources in a cross-campus, multi-disciplinary approach to computer game research.
Our innovative multi-discipline research program into computer gaming will invigorate interdisciplinary cultural computing and foster and contribute to a dynamic Art/Technology community. Our research program brings together the various elements of gaming and game studies including:
The educational uses of gaming;
Its social-psychological and cultural impact;
The development of gaming tools for the understanding of cognition,
The advancement of real-time computational models and algorithms for graphics, music, HCI, and simulation,
and the realization of its potential as a new art form combining music, graphic art, and narrative.
The Game Research Program seeks to make significant contributions in these areas and to exert a large impact on the field as a whole.
